A Holiday Song

From Rob's friend, here's a little ditty for you to enjoy.

Merry Christmas To All

I wish I had the time and the energy to email or call each and every one of you, dear readers. I wish I had my Christmas cards weeks ago when I had first started addressing them. I wish there were more hours in the day, more days in the week(end), and an abundance of energy to accomplish all my lofty holiday aspirations. But reality dictates these goals not be met and I'm okay with that. Why? Because, for all my wishes listed above, the most important wish -- the one to which I've focused all my wishing powers -- is for all of you and yours to have the happiest of celebrations this Christmas.

May your day be filled with laughter and love and hope. Lots and lots of hope. With hope, anything is possible.

Merry Christmas, happy belated Chanukah (or whichever spelling you prefer), and/or happy/merry anything else you wish to celebrate.

Is There A "Grove-l" In The House?

Little Dude was having a quiet game of Scrabble with his grandmother the other evening and at the end of the game he was trying to place the very last of his tiles. I jumped in to help on the final two -- U and L -- and managed to find a place for the U. I couldn't see anything for the L, but, in an inspired moment, he said, "Is there a 'grove-l' in the house?"

I laughed myself silly. Yes, he found what we adults couldn't and it was a damn good word.

Hope Floats

Hope floats and maybe even heats.

The dehumidifiers and superfans are out of the house and now we await the return of heat and our new water heater.

I'm hopeful. Very hopeful.

Of course, if plumber #2 had fixed one of the toilets upstairs while he was here fixing the leaking shower (that dining room light fixture fame), I'd have been happier. Alas, it was not to be.

The best part of the removal of the big machine type stuff is being able to go to the bathroom downstairs (it hurt to walk upstairs all the time) and then to do laundry. It's exciting. Really exciting.

Oooh! And, the microwave is now usable again.

I'm easily excited, apparently.

Given a Choice

Where I want be

Given a choice of motels/hotels, I'd choose something in this neighborhood

When The Heat Goes Out Of Your Relationship

No heat? Nothing to keep you warm at night? Yeah, same here.

We currently have no working furnace, can't use the downstairs bathroom, and are still without water. But the good news is, there's a hole in the dining room ceiling and our downstairs bath is torn apart. Yep. That's the good news.

Turns out the water heater had been leaking for a long time and the water damage was so extensive the plumber had to call in specialists to take care of things before finishing the install of the new tank.

Now, the new team has stated quite clearly they believe our landlord should be putting us up in a motel or something and, to be honest, I quite agree. But for one more night, I'm willing to tough it out. Sure, the smell and mold and such are making me wheezy, it's cold, and we're fighting the noise from the fans and dehumidifiers. I guess I'm just a glutton for punishment.

If there's no heat tomorrow though, I'm outta here. Don't know where I'll go, but I'll find something. Little Dude has his dad's house, so no worries there. He thinks being a little cold tonight and taking a shower at my mom's is an adventure. How lucky am I?

My advice for those of you experiencing a loss of heat in your "relationship" is to grab that heating pad, lots of blankets, and find a cuddle buddy. It won't necessarily be as comfortable as what you normally have, but it'll be a good test of your inner strength and maybe even the family bond.

Just don't let anyone have beans or cabbage for dinner.
